What is a Paternity Test?

Deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, is a unique genetic marker that maps a person's biological traits. DNA is inherited from our parents, half coming from our father and half from our mother. A paternity test compares a subject's DNA to that of the alleged father, in an effort to determine whether there is a 50% match in DNA structure. A paternity test is considered negative if less than 50% of the subject's DNA matches with that of the alleged father -- indicating a statistical 0% probability of paternal relation. A positive result indicates a probability of virtually %100.
DNA testing is an nonintrusive procedure, involving only a single soft sponge swab on the inside of the mouth.
